Summary

Detail

Eryn moved through the door they had opened into an area with skeletons chained to the wall. Inside the large chamber were two rectangular structures. She imagined they were cells but there was no opening on the side that she was facing. As she moved in, others slowly began to enter the room. She moved passed the first rectangular structure and found two empty cages. The third cage in the room had a young lady inside. She was crying, her clothes were tattered, and she looked scared.

As Eryn moved across the room to check on her, she was set upon by a Thrall. He moved very fast and his scimitar glowed. She called out that she was being attacked. X'or got to her first and began fighting the Thrall with her. A second Thrall came from the shadows beyond the next structure and attacked X'or. The girl in the cage was terrified at this point. Symon moved down to see what was happening and fired Magic Missiles at one of them. Eryn started taking some very hard hits. Cassie came in and circled to hit the one on X'or. She landed some solid hits. X'or did as well.

Cal checked on the girl I the cage and tried to see if he could open the cage but it was locked. Angelique made it down there and began firing at the Thralls. Captain Hurst went to help Cal with the girl. Just as the Thrall on X'or died, Eryn, who had taken a beating at this point, used her Boot's of Striding and Springing to spring backward away from her opponent. Cassie moved in to take her place. She and X'or finished off the last Thrall quickly.

Angelique and Cal tried to calm the girl in the cage down but she was still terrified of them, thinking they were like her captors. They explained that they were going to free her as Eryn unlocked and opened the cage. The girl, Mary calmed down as she exited the cage. She asked them to save her sister. She told them that they'd just taken her away, apparently back the way the Company had come.

Eryn used a set of keys recovered from fallen guards to unlock a heavy iron door to the inner chamber on the right. Inside, the group found two men who had been brutally beaten into a catatonic state. One suffered from a poorly healed leg injury that caused a permanent limp, and the other was missing several fingers. Angelique utilized her healing proficiency to bring one of the men to a lucid state, though he remained terrified, cringing and begging for the pain to stop. Cal spoke to the prisoners in Elvish to offer comfort, but they were too broken by their ordeal to respond fully. Eryn unlocked the chains holding them.

In a second cell, they discovered two women in a state of hysterical fear. When X’or and Cassandra approached, the women screamed for them to stay away. Angelique attempted to soothe them with blessings, but they remained hysterical until the rescued woman, Mary spoke to them. Recognizing Mary, the prisoners finally calmed down enough for Angelique to unlock their shackles with the keys. Eryn provided the male survivors with doses of extra healing to snap them out of their catatonic shock, and they warned the party about a figure they feared called “the manager”.

A cell on the northern wall held a stoic and scrappy woman named June, who was untrusting at first but upon seeing the others being released, grew relieved at being set free and joined the growing group of lady survivors in their little room. The final cell the “Company” searched held two men: one who was completely insane and another who sat in a deadly, silent trance. He starred at Eryn as she moved closely. When Eryn moved to unlock the silent man's chains, he suddenly lunged and began choking her with a vice-like grip. X’or rushed in to break the man's hold, snapping his fingers to force him to release Eryn. Eryn then jammed her +2 dagger into the man’s skull. They finished him off but not before he'd nearly killed Eryn. The other mad man was knocked unconscious by Hurst. They closed off that room and began searching for Mary's sister.

Leaving the freed prisoners in a safe area, the Company moved toward stairs leading east. They followed it to a storage room filled with stacked barrels and crates where Eryn overheard two sailors grumbling about being “nursemaids to lunatics” and wishing to return to the open sea. Symon had the idea to try to convince them to join our crew. As he pointed out, we were our crew and could use some professional sailors to help. The idea seemed crazy but it was worth a shot. He wanted Eryn to get closer to them and ask about joining us while Symon would attempt to use a Charm Person spell on one of the sailors to avoid a fight. The attempt failed and combat broke out. During the struggle, Cassandra fell while trying to climb over the barrels, which left her sprawled on the floor. X’or leaped onto a lower stack of barrels and down beside Eryn who was taking quite the beating. Cal had come around the crates and joined the fight as well. Together, they killed the sailors. They gathered gold and silver from the gambling table.

The party found a set of doors which led back to the docks. They checked the door in the southern wall adorned with symbols of the Black Dragon cult of Nox and the deity Sahn. Eryn identified a magical trap on the door, which Angelique successfully dispelled. Beyond the doors lay a natural cave system with a putrid odor. As they moved through the damp tunnels, they were ambushed by four Ghasts and another Thrall. The stench was so foul it sickened Eryn and some of the others giving them a reduced attack roll. Angelique used her holy powers to turn several of the undead, allowing the Company to finish the fight. After the battle, the group stood before another set of stairs, preparing to continue their search for the Princess.

This is where the session ended.
