Dirk S Treachery And More Slaves Found (Session 57)

April 5, 2025

Summary

The session began with the characters discussing the letter requesting Kerr and Mitgan be sent to Kalen Lekos. Audra noted that the letter referred to Mitgan as a slave but not Kerr. They remembered Kerr was the person who made the potion to save Dame Gold's brother. After the party at Dame Gold's, Kerr left. They didn't think she had returned after they left which made it seem that she might have been involved in the operation.

Dirk, hearing this, asked if they know Kerr. They explain they'd met her once when she made a potion for Dame Gold's brother. Dirk mentioned that Stalman might have had a soft spot for her. He also spoke of a failed operation involving a possible new Slavelord Mistress in the outlands. Dirk described Kerr as short, slender, and pretty in a nerdy way, but he felt something was off about her. He suspected her experiments might have corrupted her soul.

The conversation shifted to Og and his drinking habits, comparing them to Kerr's corruption. Dirk revealed Kerr's close ties with Stalman and Markessa. Brandy questioned Dirk's intentions, suggesting he might betray them if left behind. Dirk speculated they might be working for Stalman against him. Brandy offered Dirk a position in their group with probation, warning him of the consequences if he betrayed them.

Dirk expresses his preference for staying alive and making money, regardless of the morality of his actions. He viewed slaves as mere numbers on paper. Brandy asked if Dirk was willing to join them against their enemies. Dirk agreed but warned he might bail if things went bad. Audra emphasized their group's perseverance and loyalty to fallen comrades.

The door at the top of the stairs opened, and Orcs charged in, leading to a fierce battle. Dirk, tied up, called for help to join the fight. Pyreece casts spells to hold the Orcs succeeding on one. Elenor slowed four the Orcs, while Og freed Dirk and gives him a sword. Dirk betrayed them, attacking Elenor, but they manage to kill him and focus on the Orcs again. More Orcs and an Ogre join the fight, but the group managed to defeat them, with Pyreece pushing one Orc into the moat to drown.

Kipp and Brandy chased an escaping Orc down a hallway, leading to a room with slave pens. The Orc ran through a door to the south, and an Aspis attacked Kipp. Brandy and Audra joined the fight in the small room. Pyreece discovered a hallway under the platform and called out to the group. They dropped down and fought the Orcs under the platform. They finished off the Orcs and Aspis, finding a room with cells holding prisoners.

The recording ends with the group rushing to chase the captors who took someone through the southern exit. They realized they are too late to catch them and head back to the cells. They found keys on the Orcs and started unlocking the cell doors while Og retrieved his sword from Dirk's corps.

Detail

One thing pointed out, as the session started was, in the letter requesting Kerr and Mitgan be sent to Kalen Lekos, it called Mitgan a slave, but not Kerr. As they thought back to the party at Dame Gold's, they remembered Kerr as the person that made the potion to use to save Dame Gold's brother. The other thing they remembered was that when the party ended, lots of people stayed even through the next day, but Black Kerr had gone. They don't know that she might not have come back after the company had set out to find Dame Gold's brother, but as far as they knew, she wasn't as Dame Gold's. It seemed as though Kerr might have been a participant in this whole operation.

Dirk, hearing all of this asked, "Do you guys know her?". They let him know that they had met her once. She had made a potion for them to deliver to Dame Gold's brother that she was an outlander, like them, as well. Dirk told them he didn't know her very well but he thought Stalman was a little sweet on her. He added, "He had lots of dealings with outlanders, especially ladies of power and distinction. There was even talk of a whole operation with a new Slavelord Mistress in the outlands. Something happened though and the whole plan fell apart. I don't know what happened though.". Brandy said, "It fell apart there, we had a little something to do with that!". He seemed intrigued by that statement.

Dirk described Kerr as a little short, slender, and pretty in a nerdy sort of way. He added, "She's kind of all dark and kind of serious. She's kind of into the whole chemicals and experiments stuff that I never cared for. I didn't really like her. She kind of just felt wrong to me. You ever met somebody like that, where your radar kind of goes off?". Brandy replied, "Yeah, sometimes I think I'm talking to someone like that right now.". Dirk added, "She could be devious or treacherous. I was thinking that maybe all that shit she's been concocting over the years has corrupted her brain…no…not her brain, but her soul…well…if she actually has one.".

Brandy said, "It sounds like Og and ale!". Dirk asked, "Who?". Brandy continued, "Og and all the ale he drinks, its kind of corrupted him too but in a different way.". Dirk turned to Og and asked, "You a drunken sod there Og?". Oglesby replied, "I've been known to take a nip or two every once in a while. You've got top enjoy life while you can. Right?". Dirk laughed in agreement and added, "Yeah, Kerr is pretty tight with Stalman as far as I know, and Markessa, they're kind of two peas in a pod.".

Brandy looked at Dirk and asked again, "The big question is, what are we going to do with you? As you can tell, we're not murderous thugs that go around and just kill everything left and right. If we leave you behind then you're going to tell people what we're doing and where we're going and that's going to increase the danger which is not very smart.". Dirk replied, "That's why this doesn't make sense. Seems like…were you guys sent by Stalman or somebody, against me? Cause I'm thinking one of you planted that fake ass letter while I was out. It makes sense if you're trying to set me up to blackmail or trying to take over my operation, but seems like it would be a lot easier to just kill me, but then the lords might ask questions! Yeah, that kind of makes a weird sort of sense. Like you were working for somebody, that if I just died or were killed, they would have to explain themselves.". Brandy answered, "Well, that could be one way to interpret it. Or you could do it the other way, which is, you know what, this whole operation is being run by a bunch of scumbags that attacked our friends and took them as slaves and we're here to tear this whole fucking thing down.". Dirk replied, "I guess that is another option.".

Brandy said, I guess the question for you is, which side do you want to play for?". Dirk answered, "Well, I've found through the years that I'm particularly fond of being alive. So, I usually play for the side, if it's not too distasteful, that gives me security and profit. I don't have a lot of…you know, the people they capture as slaves, I don't really deal with them.", he pulled out some sheets or paper and holds them up, adding, "They're just like numbers on a paper, even though they are not far away. There's batch of them here. Everybody's dealt their lot in life, you know?". Brandy responded, "That's very true!". Dirk added, "You know the gods, some people were born slaves, some people were born to be slave masters. Some people were born to achieve and some people were born to be poor and live in a damn dich. I don't know why! I'm just trying to make some money, and not be in the dich.".

Brandy asked, "So, what are you saying?". Dirk asked, "Are you offering me a position in your group?". Brandy answered, "Yeah, with probation, if you fuck us, we're going to kill you!". Dirk asked, "Literally of figuratively, if I fuck you?". Brandy looked to the other girls, raising an eyebrow. Then she looked back to Dirk and answered, "I guess that would be literally!". Dirk said, "I think one option would be most enjoyable while the other option would be most unenjoyable.". Brandy said, "Or, we could fuck you first and then kill you! How about that?". Dirk answered, "Again, literally or figuratively?", as he laughed. He got a little more serious and said, "Well…".

Brandy said, "You'll have to give up your fancy title!". Dirk said, "I don't care, again, my motivation there is just to stay alive. If they out a task before me, I try to do it to the best of my ability. They were happy with me for a while. Here lately it seems they've not been quiet so happy.". He looked at the letter again saying, "This shit doesn't make any sense at all.". Brandy said, "Sounds like, to me, you are not as important to them as you were at one point.".

Audra added, "You were just talking about how scared you are of them, has that changed? Do you feel like you can join us and go up against them?". Dirk answered, "To be totally honest, I'll give it a try but if things start going sour, I may bail on you! I've got a pretty good survival, fight or flight instinct. If you guys are getting massacred, old Dirk watches out for old Dirk for the most part.". Brandy said, "I understand, I know the type.". Dirk said, "Everybody's that type, whether they admit it or not!". Audra spoke up saying, "So far we've survived mostly on the fact that regardless of what it takes, we keep going until we persevere. We don't give up on the people who have fallen.". Brandy said, "Even when we act like big drunk dumbasses, we still back each others play." Og said, "Brandy, are you ever going to get over that?".

It was then that the door at the top of the stairs opened . Audra, catching that out of the corner of her eye, reach for her bow. Pyreece turned to see what was going on. Orc's started coming through the door, and seeing the carnage ahead, they let out a great cry of challenge and drew their weapons. Dirk said, "Oh, fucking great! They're going to think I'm in on this shit.". The Orc's started charging down the steps. From beyond the door, they heard a horn blast. Brandy charged to meet them on the steps. One stayed to fight her while the other four ran past. Behind them came three more. Two of those made it past Brandy but the third one fell off the stairs and into the sewage moat. The first group made it to Audra and Pyreece near the desk, and attacked. The second group made it to the bottom of the steps and onto the round platform.

The bulk of the initial fight happened by the desk in Dirk's area. Dirk was tied up when it started and called out to Og to cut him free so he could fight. Pyreece cast a hold person and caught one of the front four Orc's with it. She move to the next Orc, blocking his access to Elenor. Elenor cast a slow spell on the Orc's in the back affecting all four of them. Og not only cut Dirk free but gave him a +1 short sword. He promptly attacked Elenor, noting that he was a liar!. Kipp attacked him. Oglesby attacked him and then Pyreece attacked him. Brandy was dealing with on Orc on the steps. The Orc that fell in the moat began trying to climb out. The slowed Orc's went to the outside ring ad began coming around, slowly.

They focused on and killed Dirk but not before he got a good hit on Elenor. Then they turned their attention to the Orc's again. More Orc's came pouring down the stairs and also one Ogre. Audra moved to block the platform they were fighting on while finishing off one Orc. Kipp charged the Orc's coming down the steps as they reached the platform. Brandy shifted her focus to the Ogre. They killed most of the initial four when Audra took off to help Kipp and Brandy by the steps. Pyreece, finished off the last couple of Orc's near Dirk's table while Elenor and Oglesby fired at the Ogre and Orc's by the stairs. When Pyreece had finished killing all of the Orc's but the one she'd held, she pushed it off into the moat to let it drown there. Brandy, with help from Og and Elenor firing on it, killed the Ogre. Then over the course of the next round or so, finished off all but one Orc which had escaped out the door at the top of the stairs.

Kipp and Brandy gave chase. They pursued him down a long hallway. At then end of the hallway was a room with a lot of slave pins. Just before the slave pins was a door to the south. The Orc had gone into that door with Kipp hot on his heals. As he rounded the corner and entered the room, he spotted an Aspis, his focus was on the Orc but the Aspis attacked him while the Orc ran through another door and down some stairs and out of sight. Another Aspis came up the stairs and joined the fight. Eventually Brandy made it into the room and then Audra. It was a very small room. Og couldn't get in there so he fired from outside the door. Pyreece and Elenor came up next.

As Pyreece got there and saw that there was not much she could do, she saw that north of the platform they were on was an opening to the room below. She leaned over and looked under the platform to see where it went. It appeared the room had a hallway going under the platform. With the stairs in the room going down, she thought this might be another way to get to them so she dropped down to the floor below. She looked south, once there and saw the hallway went all the way through and she saw more Orcs, including the one that fled. There was a third Aspis heading up the stairs now as well. She called out to let everyone know there was a way through down there.

Oglesby took the opportunity to drop down as well. Audra backed out of the small room as they had killed the Aspis in the room and Kipp and Brandy were dealing with the one on the stairs. Audra also dropped to the lower level with Pyreece and they blocked the hallway, fighting the Orcs under the platform. Elenor lowered herself into that room as well and joined Og in firing at the Orcs. Within a few minutes, they'd finished off the last of the Orcs and the Aspis. As they finished, they had moved far enough into the lower room to see movement in the adjoining room. As they entered that room, they found it to contain two rows of cells, each holding a person, except for two, that were empty.

The recording ended here. From memory, the woman in the first cell said something bout them being two late. They had taken someone and gone out the southern exit. The group rushed through to the exit to give chase. The tunnel was small and would be slow going for the bigger folk. Brandy took the lead and they continued on. After a few moments, they found themselves back in the tunnels that they'd followed out of the Ant area. They realized that the woman told them they'd left about 10 minutes before they'd finished their fight. They decided that they were likely too far away to catch. They headed back to the cells. The locks on the cell doors were heavy. They searcehdf the Orcs and found two sets of keys on them. They started to unlock the cell doors while Og ran back to get the +1 Short Sword off of Dirk and returned.
