**Detail**

The adventuring party found themselves at a cracked door, the faint sound of creaking hinges mingling with the soft glow of light seeping through from the other side. The air was tense, their resources depleted, and the group needed to decide their next move.

Eryn, nearly fully healed after using one full bottle of extra healing, slipped forward to peek through the door. She heard shuffling, perhaps someone walking, and a muffled curse about someone named Tom. Eryn signaled to the others, and with a nod, she opened the door as quietly as possible. Halfway open, it crunched on bones and shells scattered on the ground, alerting a guard who spun around, grabbing his sword and shouting about their early arrival. Eryn got in far enough to not completely block the hallway. 

The battle erupted. X’or, acting first, swung at the guard but missed. Cal, recognizing the chaos, squeezed in and landed a hit, dealing 12 points of damage, followed by another hit causing 10 more damage. The guard staggered but fought back. Symon, unable to get a clear shot with his slingshot, held his action. Cassandra fired her bow, missing, while Angelique, also with her bow, landed a hit, dealing 6 points of damage. The first guard fell, but another remained.

The fight continued, with the second guard landing blows and the party retaliating. Eryn took a nasty hit and retaliated, missing. Cassandra hit for 9 damage, while Cal unleashed a devastating combo, dealing 30 total damage. Angelique fired over Eryn’s head, hitting twice, dealing 5 and 7 damage. The second guard fell, and Cal dragged the bodies into the room, checking their armor. The group descended the stairs, finding nothing immediately threatening but unable to see far in the dim light.

Angelique searched the guards, finding no paperwork but some gold. The party moved cautiously, spotting a column and hearing a faint whining sound. They were ambushed by another group of guards. These four guards were very tough but they finished them off. They did some healing and then checked the two doors leading out of the room to the east. They heard nothing beyond the doors so Eryn picked the lock on the northern of the two doors. She stepped back to let X'or open it. 

As they pressed on, they were ambushed by more guards and a figure they later identified as Shirva, a formidable opponent. Cal, despite being blinded by a spell, fought on with his blind fighting skill, landing critical hits. Angelique cast a flaming sphere, catching one of Shirva guards in its radius, while Symon used burning hands to deal 14 damage to two of the guards that X'or and Cal were dealing with. X’or took heavy hits but pressed forward, with Eryn using her Boots of Striding to leap the room to get into Shirva's face. With that, she was able to break the spell Shirva was attempting to cast. 

The party’s teamwork shone as guards fell one after the other and Shirva fell. Cal collapsed at one point, barely clinging to life. After Shirva's death, Angelique moved to stabilize Cal. The last of the guards were killed and the battle was over. Symon searched the bodies, finding a non-magical dagger, a flail, platinum-decorated plate mail, a potion, and 50 gold pieces. The group, exhausted, considered resting in a nearby room with beds and chests but decided to retreat to a more defensible position. 

They backtracked to a stairwell near the entrance, setting up watches and using a ring of regeneration to heal. Cassandra healed first, passing the ring to Eryn, then X’or. Before resting, they identified their loot: a flail +1, plate mail +1, and three potions of extra healing. They distributed the potions, with Eryn, Symon, and Cal each taking one. The party then returned to the room, Behind the eastern door, they heard wailing. Behind the southern door, they heard nothing. There were two doors in the room where the guards slept. They listened at them and heard some movement from the western one but couldn't determine what the movement was. They heard nothing from the eastern one.

Eryn cracked open the southern door in the main room, sneaking inside to find there was a blue glow emanating from the corners which she couldn't see yet. As she moved forward, she fell into a trap, taking damage. Cassandra and Cal pulled her out. She peeked around, spotting a table with papers, scrolls, and a skull. Suddenly, two guards jumped out, one landing another natural 20 for 21 damage. These kinds of hits seemed to be happening with regularity now. The party rallied, with Cal landing a two hits for 26 damage, Symon casting a fireball to catch all of the enemies for 20 damage, unless they saved for half of that. 

X'or had been fighting from the opposite side of the chamber through another opening into the same dimly lit area. He finished off his melee attacker and moved in to attack two archers while Cassandra and Call did the same on the other side. Angelique moved where she could fire over the trap that Eryn had sprung earlier. Eryn moved with her and jumped the trap ending up behind all four archers. She backstabbed three of them to devastating effect. They whittled down the guards quickly after that.

As the last guard fell, the party noticed a religious statue with a blue glow, not dedicated to any known deity, possibly linked to House Umbridge or another unknown force. They looted the guards, earning 975 experience points each, and Shirva’s defeat, the party earned yielded 3,740 experience points without a 10% bonus, or 4,114 with it. They also collected 466 gold pieces and 5 silver pieces per person.

Exhausted but resolute, the party prepared to explore the hallway and stairs ahead, wary of what lay beyond, knowing their adventure was far from over.
