Summary

The started where they left off last week, having finished off the stirges. There was a door next to Kipp which he opened. They found the room beyond was partially collapsed into the floor below. There was some teak furniture. There was a skeleton with a spear by his side and a ring. They carefully entered, in case the skeleton attacked, but it didn't. They searched it, collected the ring, and found a small flask on it which they also collected. They searched the rest of the room but found it had already been ransacked and found nothing else. They left that room and went across the main room to a section they hadn't been in yet. Of the three doors remaining, they picked the main door in the middle of the hallway.

Audra opened the door to find a room with several tables lined with rusty and/or old weapons. There were two skeletons on the floor as well, very old. They searched them and found nothing of value. The bones were so old that they were brittle and were disintegrating. In searching the weapons, the did find a few intact. They found a heavy cross bow, three short swords, a halberd, a staff sling, and a sling. The sling and the staff sling appeared to be in pretty good shape for as long as they've been there. The rest looked usable but not in good shape. They separated the slings off to be checked with the other stuff later. Kipp moved south through an archway to find another room with two more skeletons. One of the bodies was a dwarf wearing rusted remains of chainmail, leggings, and boots. A few tufts of hair still coated his chin. The other skeleton wore only a loincloth.

There was a battle axe covered with dwarven runes, a small metal shield with a red dragon scale mounted on it, and a javelin. The shield was the most impressive item. The shield didn't look that great but the dragon scale looked relatively new. It was fitted to the front of the shield. The axe might have been nice at one time but it was in really crappy condition now. Audra pulled the boots off of the dwarf and as she did, they changed size. They were definitely magical! She put them with the other items to be checked. There was a set of stairs there and Kipp went up. It opened to the top of the tower. There was nothing up there.

Oglesby did a more thorough search of the room and found a compartment underneath one of the skeletons. He found no traps so he opened it and found a scroll. He determined it was a magical scroll. Since the journal entry they'd found said something about Halaan and his priest placed the item they were looking for, Pyreece assumed it would be something that was meant for her. After examining it, she determined it was a scroll of divination. She said, if you are careful in posing a question, you may cast the spell and ask the question and receive an answer. It may be cryptic but it should be helpful.

Meanwhile, Kipp had moved north to the last unopened door. He opened it and found some weapons and armor, and steps that led up to the upper battlements. He looked through the armor and weapons for anything that might be useful. As he did, he started hearing the sound of distant drumming. He moved back to the group and pointed out the drumming that they hadn't heard yet. They stopped and listened and agreed, they needed to get out of there. They decided to cast the divination spell from the scroll to figure out which way to go from here. The spell required a carefully worded question that it could answer. They discussed the wording of the question and then Pyreece cast the spell asking, “Where can we find the Alchemist, that passed through this area, named Halaan. Or, better yet, where can we find the Halaan that left this scroll.”.

In her mind, Pyreece had a vision and saw where they had travelled west toward the foothills of the Peaks of Flame. She saw certain stone formations in the mountain side that would act as a landmark as to where she was. She also saw a large outcropping of rock. Then in her mind, she zoomed in and saw a tribal village not dissimilar to Ishau but definitely much more primitive. She saw several primitive natives living their daily lives, doing nothing special. She did not see Halaan though. She noted that she didn't see them eating people. As she came out of the vision, she explained to everyone what she had seen and took some parchment and a quill from Elenor to make some crude but simple drawings of the rock formations she had seen and some potential visual ques that she might be able to use later to identify a place as the place she'd seen in her vision.

As she finished, they agreed that the drumming was getting much closer and it was time to leave. They bolted for the place where they had initially entered. Along the way, Pyreece healed Audra and herself some. They stopped at the opening to see what they could see. They saw some movement in the jungle outside. They began rushing south as they saw figures coming out of the woods to the north. Kipp lead the way trying to identify the best and fastest way into and through the jungle. While moving south and looking west, he saw a lot of movement in the woods, but he was unable to identify anything specific. The drumming was all around them, then a couple of spears came out of the wood at him. One hit him and the other came up a little short. There were feathers adorning them. Looking back at where the spears had come from, he saw a couple of figures with white paint on their faces, in very primitive attire.

Elenor moved part of the way toward Kipp but seeing the spears, stopped behind a rock. Oglesby came out and followed after Kipp, drawing up a little short when he saw the spears flying in at Kipp. He turned loose of a sling bullet at one of the natives and hit him. He also noticed that there was a lot of movement in the woods, a lot of movement. Brandy came out and followed along with Kipp and fired at the same native that Oglesby hit and killed him. Many more natives began pouring out of the jungle, both on the northern and western sides. The drumming indicated that the castle was being surrounded. There was a lot of clicking as the DM was busy moving many, many natives into view. One with a ceremonial mask moved on Kipp and savagely struck him.

Oglesby was attacked by a female native but missed. Pyreece ran out and about halfway down the path toward Kipp, with her shield in one hand, she raised the other, palm facing the natives and yelled, “STOP!”. This seemed to halve no effect. Audra ran out with her sword and shield readied and stopped, putting herself between Elenor and the incoming natives. She held up her hands and yelled, “STOP!”. Again, this didn't seem to give the natives any pause for concern. They apparently couldn't understand them as the tongue they where speaking in was foreign to them. Oglesby fired a second shot at another native and hit it. Brandy shot at one riding on a dinosaurs and killed him. The dinosaur was about 10 ft tall and about 12 feet long, running on two legs.

The next round, started with Elenor making a big show of casting the spell, Wall of Fog. The wall appeared between the natives and the party. Brandy moved back behind the fighters and fired at one of the natives, dropping it. Kipp did a fighting retreat and moved back toward the rest of the party. Oglesby also retreated and fired at one of them and missed. The hachita began to pause, the fog seemed to be very concerning, forcing some to cower and run away. The dinosaur continued rushing in. Other natives poured out of the woods but were slowed by the sight of the wall of fog. The dinosaur rushed Pyreece, attacking her, one of the claw attacks and the bite attack hit her. She attacked back but missed. Audra moved up and attacked the dinosaur, making a big show of it, hitting it. Both Oglesby and Brandy fired on the dinosaur hitting it.

They continued to fight, for several more rounds, Elenor cast the shocking grasp spell, making a big show of it, approaching one of the natives, touching him, causing him to collapse. The native regained his footing and in fear, ran off. Others, seeing this, were more apprehensive about approaching her. They finished off this dinosaur and then Pyreece made a big show of casting a produce flame spell which she threw at one of the natives. It hit him severely injuring him and catching his clothing on fire. He fled and fell a short distance away. As that flame left her hand, another produced itself in her hand, She waved it around menacingly, again, making a big show of it before throwing it at another native. He suffered the same effect as happened to the first one. The natives were slowing their approach. No one wanted to be the next target. She did the same with a third one. He fell dead, burning.

Brandy and Oglesby kept attacking from a distance and dropped many of them. Brandy used her fire arrows to great effect adding to the terror the hachita were experiencing. When he ran out of fire arrows, he shifted to acid arrows and continued terrorizing them. Kipp moved in and hacked his way through many of them. Audra kept moving from one to another, hacking them down. Elenor was attacked and collapsed. Kipp moved forward to cover her as Oglesby moved up and gave her a potion of cure light wounds. She drank another potion and rose, moving away from the front line. She magic missiled one killing it and then returned to using her sling to continue the assault. The natives were growing more cautious as the battle seemed to be more than they had anticipated.

From a distance, they all heard a loud bellowing sound. The natives seemed very concerned with that sound. The hachita were beginning to experience a real crises of will. Their fear of these interlopers was beginning to get the better of them and some had begun to flee without even engaging. Others had weapons up and were ready to engage but turned at the sound and ran off into the woods as if attacking something. Some stayed behind and continued their attack. The number of natives had dwindled greatly and the ones that remained were dying quickly. The bellowing sound continued from the woods. They weren't sure what was making it.

Around the corner of the southern end of he castle came in more natives. Lot's more. This appeared to be a very bad sign. These natives though, had a very different look to them. They didn't have the white face paint. They charged northward toward the group. As they charged up, the remaining hachita turned to challenge them. A few hachita on the north side fled while Kipp dropped another using a cross sword maneuver which cost his opponent his head. The newcomers finished off the last couple of them. The fight was officially over. They had managed to kill fifteen of the hachita and a couple of dinosaurs.

One the new natives approached with their hands up. The party raised their hands in kind. One of the new natives approached them with a little piece of parchment in his hand. He spoke in very broken common saying what sounded like, “Need help….evil…you come!”. Pyreece asked, “Oh, you needed our help?”. The native nodded saying, “yea…help!”. Oglesby and the rest bowed in his direction and he said, “Yes, we will help you!”. Kipp nodded as well and said, “Yes, we help you, for helping us!”. The native patted his chest and said, “Mzolo ”. Kipp introduced himself. The native waved his arm in a grand motion over the rest of his people and said, “Belsona!”. Kipp motioned to the rest of his party and said, “Friends!”. Mzolo took a second to try and repeat the word, “Friends!”. One of the other natives seemed to catch on to the word a little faster than Mzolo .

Mzolo pulled out a couple of gorde like vials and handed them to Elenor and Pyreece saying something in his language but also indicating they should drink them. They did and were healed some. He gave another one to Kipp. This potion was apparently really good with poison but also did a little healing. The sound of activity outside the immediate area died down. Mzolo and his merry men communicate that their tribe need assistance. He said that they looked smart and reminded them of smart man that was helping them already.

This is where the session ended.
