Summary

Detail

They continued their way through the mite tunnels. As they moved north and east again, they turned the corner to find two more mites. Brandy was ready and took one down quickly. The other one laughed and moved back out of sight. They continued down a snaking hallway, twisting and turning, so short that it forced the rest of the group to crawl behind them. They continued to follow the creature but were very careful not to be led into a trap. Oglesby found a pit trap a little ways down the passageway. Again as they rounded a corner, they were fired on by three of them. Brandy got her first shot off and killed one. This resulted in a fight. Brandy took the lead on it. The mites fired and then ran off again. After disappearing in the darkness, the group heard loud screeches much like an alarm. It was like they were calling up the troops. They continued on down the passage hoping to see and fire on one. Up ahead, the passage opened up into a much bigger chamber. She spotted a couple and fired on them but missed. Everyone moved up behind Barry.

As Brandy made it into the chamber, she saw at least a dozen of these little mites in the room. More were coming. There was also a creature not like the rest. He sat on a throne made of broken pieces of wood and stone. He wore a broken wooden crown surrounded by several gems. The floor of the cavern was covered with layers of silver coin. The ceiling of the room did get a little higher, up to about 6 feet. The adventurers were better able to fight in this chamber. The fight was long, with everyone facing several opponents at the same time. A couple were able to stay behind the line and use their ranged weapons. A few of the mites stayed behind the front line and used range weapons as well. Though the mites were easy to kill, being their were so many of them, it took a while and the party took a lot of small damage from them. Elenor attempted some dagger throwing but missed. Glub Glub cast a spell when he got up to join the fight. He cast Magic Missile at Pyreece and then pulled out a bone club or rod and walked up to continue the fight. Brandy refocused her attacks on him but he was very large and even a little blob like. It didn't appear that the arrows were doing as much damage as they normally would. Barry, Kipp, and Brandy each failed a saving throw with no apparent or obvious ramifications from it.

In the next round, tiny little demon things appeared on Barry, Kipp, and Brandy. That's when they found out what the saving throws were for, to see if they noticed the creatures. Pyreece did have to cast a cure light wounds on herself as the little mites were starting to wear her down. Elenor finally took Glub Glub out with a magic missile. The demons were saved until the last and each of them were killed but they were hard to damage. From there it was only a matter of time before all of the mites were dead. They searched everything and picked up all of the silver and gems and the bone rod. They found the Snuff Box but not the Platinum Cup. Pyreece over heard the statement about the cup and asked what they were supposed to find down here. She was not present when the dragon made his demands. She learned of the need to find the snuff box and the cup. She mentioned a room that she and Audra had passed through that was full of junk or rubbish. They didn't search that room at the time, “Perhaps it is in there!”, she said. They decided to continue on and work their way back around to that room if they didn't find it somewhere along the way. Several people pulled out and drank their healing potions. They began moving off through a tunnel to the east. They made their way through the rest of the tunnels. They didn't find the cup until they made it back to the mite dump and searched it. There, they found it.

Pyreece and Audra couldn't return to the dragon room with the others so they made their way out. The rest returned all of the items they had found while down here and let the dragon know the mites were no more. He could no longer feel their presence and was pleased. He charged the rod with his breath weapon and asked that they close off the main tunnel so that no one else could come in and bother him. They did that as the were leaving, closing off the first tunnel inside the big cave, blocking access to the dragon and it's treasure. They left and returned to Ejja Vonan with no trouble. It was early evening when they got back and they had a big celebration. They fully healed and rested and then headed back to Calimport. They were questioned at the gate before being allowed to enter. They had separated into groups of two with Oglesby in Barry form. They did not seem to attract any attention. They noticed a little more guard activity on the walls and the gate. They made their way first to Halaan at the forge. They moved through town in pairs and as they approached the forge, they noticed bright blue smoke pouring out of it. Nothing else looked out of place and it appeared the smoke was coming from the chimney. They heard hammering coming from within as well. Each group went in as they arrived.

They found a sweaty Halaan, happy to see them. They gave him the rod? He asked about the devils blood. They reminded him that they hadn't been told where and how to get it yet. He remembered and told them that he needed them to come back at midnight. It was about 6:00 at the time. Oglesby asked, “So what happens at midnight tonight?”. Halaan answered, “Something amazing, and I will need your participation.”. He told them he needed to get back to work and to come back at midnight. They agreed and left, heading to Geolain's residence. They separated into pairs again and headed there. The guard presence in town is not as built up as the external facing presence. It looked fairly normal within the city. When they arrived at Geolain's, the gate was shut so they used the ringer. It was close to 7:00 now and Joah came out. He looked around and was very aware though and had them enter quickly. Geolain was happy to see them and wanted to hear tales of the dragon. He was interested to hear that it existed. They ate, drank and discussed the adventure. Geolain also told them that his presence was requested by Halaan as well. Audra asked about the Sentinel's. H told her that it had been mostly quite but there had been a few reports of books being stolen. Some of the homes of the wizards in the Wizard Ward had been broken into. Driscal is laying low. He is not up to anything as far as they could tell. There have been no more attempts on he or Joah. “Maybe that one night, with the shot at Joah, maybe it was just a stray shot. I don't know!”, Geolain said. There had been no activity since.

Later that night, they split up and made their way back to the forge. Geolain and Joah left separately from the others. They arrived and gathered inside. Halaan had laid out snacks for his guests but didn't allow alcohol consumption until he was done. The forge was glowing red hot and the coin was laying in a small mold within, glowing white with the forges heat. Several scrolls laid on a table near the fire. Halaan removed a long glass bottle full of green powder from a cabinet and unstopped the long cork. The smell of sour milk issued forth and filled the room. He took a large bottle of blue powder from the shelf and removed it's cork. A musty smell emanated from it, competing with the sour milk smell. He have one jar to Oglesby and one to Elenor. He opened a scroll and began to chant. The words sounded familiar though they'd never heard them before. They were guttural and almost sounded obscene. He reached into the jar with the blue powder and grabbed a handful of it and flung it into the fire. The flames turn blue and a blue smoke poured up and out of the chimney. He continued chanting with his voice growing louder and louder. The coin began to glow bright. As he continued chanting, he reached into the other jar and pulled out a pinch of the green powder, flinging it into the fire. There was a burst of green light with the bright green flames shooting up the chimney. Some of the words he chanted were familiar but still intermixed with the incomprehensible. After one particular phrase, they felt something inside them quiver and they felt a little sick. Halaan picked up a glass globe and something inside that was slithering around. He was still chanting with his voice growing louder and louder.

Halaan started reading from a second scroll and when he grew quiet, Geolain began chanting and tossed the metal rod into the fire. Suddenly lightning burst from the rod filling the forge with the sound of thunder. There was a flash outside as well. For a moment, they thought the blast form the rod was too great and would destroy the entire building. With a whoosh of blowing air, it vanished as quickly as it came leaving the coin crackling faintly with an electric glow. It was then that they noticed the torrential rain storm that had started outside. A low roar of thunder filled the air. A shriek escaped from the forge as the flames turned blood red. Halaan uttered one final guttural word and then stopped speaking. Except for the rumble of thunder outside, it became dead quiet. Brandy heard a noise outside of somebody stumbling over something and knocking over something else. It came from the window on the western wall. She quickly moved to look out the window and saw a human figure quickly disappear into rain and darkness, running away from the house. She told everyone about it. She told them there is no chance of catching him. Halaan seemed to be focused on what he had just accomplished and was very pleased. He said, “Well, that went incredibly well. No backlash, we didn't materialize any outsiders.”. Elenor pointed out that Brandy had seen someone outside the window running away. Halaan said, “Not that, I'm talking about in the forge. I called upon the powers of darkness. They would have materialized in the room.”. Brandy said, “Yeah, but somebody was watching what you did. So somebody knows and went running off so somebody somewhere is going to know what's going on in here.”. Geolain made Joah invisible and sent him to go check it out. Joah slipped outside.

Audra spoke up about running into Daresh in the desert and that she said she knows what we are doing. That could have possibly been her spy. Halaan wished it to not dampen their spirit and he pulled out a very dusty bottle, popped the cork, and poured each of them a glass. His demeanor had changed. He was quite cheery and quite excited. “Despite the actions of whatever happened outside, that went exceptionally well.”, he said. He told them that he should be able to finish the coin in a few weeks if we brought him the devil's blood spilled by a coward. He raised a glass and said, “To success my friends!”. It was followed by others drinking as well saying “Success!'. Kipp and a few of the others heard ominous whispers coming from the forge. Pyreece, who also heard it told Halaan about it immediately but Halaan played it off as being something we imagined, “It's only in your minds!”, he said. Geolain exclaimed, “I don't hear anything!”. Brandy and Kipp spoke up and said they heard it. The sound seemed to be coming from the coin. It was a faint dissonant whisper. Brandy spoke up ad said, “That coin is talking!”. She moved over to listen closely to it. They couldn't make out what it was saying. Halaan said, “Stay away from it. It's quite evil!”. Brandy, shocked, asked, “Evil?”. Kipp moved away from it. Brandy asked, “Wait a minute…wait a minute, this thing is supposed to counter the evil. Why is this one evil?”. Halaan replied, “It takes evil to destroy evil in this case. The only thing that can destroy the coin is another coin.”. Brandy asked, “So we're making the same coin that got us into this mess in the first place?”. Halaan simply answered, “Yes! That is what Arowain had told them they would have to do.”. Brandy said, “Well, that’s a fine howdy do!”.

Pyreece asked, “Do we know how the coin will have to be used when it comes time to use it?”. Halaan said, “You are all full of questions all o a sudden. The coin will have to come into contact with the other coin.”. Pyreece asked, “And what happens if it comes into contact with one of us along the way?”. “Halaan said, “You must not fall victim to it's charms!”. Brandy was still floored and said, “Now wait a minute. When that bitch, who tried to kill me, took the coin, it went inside her. How are we to make her…are we supposed to give her this coin too?”. Halaan said, “From what you told me, it became part of her.”. Brandy said, “Yes!”. Pyreece followeed with, “So we'll have to put it in her hand where the other coin is?”. Halaan said, “They'll have to come together. We can study with Geolian the best ways to do it.”. Brandy said, “I think so, cause she's not going to want to high-five me, she tried to kill me the last time she saw me.”. Halaan said, “That's typical of evil! They want to destroy those that are not evil.”. Brandy got pretty frustrated saying, “I don't like any of this!”. Halaan said, “It is an unpleasant task, and I thought we were forthright about what was going to be required of you from the beginning! At this point, to back out would be devastating!”. Geolain said, “You've already seem the additional presence of the guards, it is because of Daresh's activities outside. She has already become quite aggressive. She's organizing at this point, small militia's and armies out of the creatures of the wood and the mountains. They run raids in the desert, raids on the cities. She's gathering power. Everyday that goes by, the more powerful she becomes. The coin will not consume her the way it normally would because it has bonded with her.”.

Brandy stated that she would not shake that bitches hand. “I'm going to knife her if I get the chance.”, she said. Halaan said, “As long as she is no more, and the coins power is removed, whatever it takes!'. He adds, “Let not your heart be troubled for we are this close,”. Brandy said, “Well, it'd better work!”. Halaan said, “The coin will work, from there it is up to you!”. Brandy asked, “Okay, where do we find this devils blood?”. Halaan looked to Geolain and said, “That would be your department!”.

That is where we paused this adventure!

500 + 50 = 550xps.

Pyreece and Audra have a total of 6,410 experience points after this session. Pyreece just made level 4.

Reminder, Arowain told them, “She took the coin too early, she is linked to it now. The final sacrifice was to be blood, the blood was to become part of the coin. She took it too soon, now they are one.”. Basically, she became the blood part of the process so it bonded with her. “Neither can be destroyed unless the other is also. Her power could enslave nations when she learns to control the coin. And after she masters it, none will be able to stand against her unless another has the same skill, to make a coin of power!”. That is when Arowain told them about Halaan and that he also had the knowledge to be able to create the coin. He told them to find him, make another coin to stop her.

This game is pausing as the story of Paldegora picks up where it left off.
