Summary

Detail

In this session, the party moved north and east through the main hallway and opened the two single doors and the set of double doors at the end. One room had three bunk beds and a few chests. Oglesby found nothing but clothes. Across the hall he found a weapons room but nothing of exceptional quality. Behind the double doors as a room with food stuff, and items used to maintain the castle. There were also two Gnolls in the room which they rushed in and killed quickly. There was a door in the south wall of the room and a hallway with a portcullis that was up. When Oglesby attempted to open the door, even after checking for traps, he set off a well hidden explosive trap. He survived but backed away and let one of the sturdier warriors open it. Beyond the door was a treasure room. There were six chests, one was already open and empty, three were empty, one had a very nice jewelry box in it with some valuable items in it, and another one had a platinum necklace worth about 500 gold. All in all they valued it all around 1,200 gold.

They left that room and moved down the hallway. Oglesby checked for traps and found it full of traps. They appeared to be disabled. At the end of the hallway was a set of stairs leading up to a another hallway going north. It wrapped around to another stair case going up even higher. Pyreece and Audra accidentally walked into view of a couple of Gnolls that charged down the hallway form the east and attacked them. The party took them out quickly. They were unable to raise an alarm. They were standing in a tower room with stairs leading to the outside above. They continued down the hallway and found a room with two more Gnolls sitting at a table with a what looked like maps. They rushed them and killed them before they could raise an alarm.

There was a set of stairs leading to the top of the wall, and outside. There was a door in the south wall which they opened. There were four Gnolls inside. They rushed them but were unable to prevent them from howling alarms which were picked up by others and passed around to inside of the castle. They were about to have a lot of company. They fought this group but these Gnolls opened two portcullises leading into the room. The party was attacked through the two portcullises and the door in the south of that room. They were swarmed and while fighting the initial group, more were howling and coming to attack them.

Elenor cast a Flaming Sphere spell and placed the sphere in such a way as to block one of the entry points. The Gnolls coming from that direction were stopped and had to use range weapons to fire on them. Kipp was in exceptional fighting form. The whole party worked hard to fend off the onslaught. While they whittled away at they Gnolls in the room, Pyreece was able to move out into the courtyard and cast an Obscurement spell which filled the courtyard around her with a thick fog. This at least prevented the Gnoll archers from being able to target anyone. They moved into and through the fog slowly. Two of them finding Pyreece and two of them making it to the doorway. During the next few rounds, two more moved through the fog and found the opening in the wall and joined the fight.

Selson was at the door and attacked. Oglesby moved up to the fend off the attack and provide her some help. Audra made her way to the other Gnoll at the door. Kipp finished off the last of the Gnolls in the room and moved out of the room and up the stairs. There he engaged with a lot of Gnolls. After a round or two, the Gnoll archers up there targeted him and fired on him. Brandy made it up the stairs and fired on the Gnolls. Kipp's anger and his hatred of Gnolls got the better of him and he pulled out the coin and used it to kill three of them with one command. Brandy was shocked by what she saw.

Selson came up the stairs behind Brandy and seemed to be helping them fight off the Gnolls. As the battle continued, Kipp moved further down the wall, and drank a potion to try to stay alive. While there, Selson approached him. As she did, she morphed into a devil. She attempted to grab the coin that Kipp had exposed. She missed but still managed to stab him with a dagger that drained a point of constitution. Kipp lashed out with the coin's power and destroyed her. As she fell, Oglesby, downstairs, felt a sudden change. He no longer felt Selson's presence. He also had a realization that he'd been under her control. She had been manipulating him, controlling him. He felt a tremendous anger toward her.

As Oglesby, Pyreece, and Audra finished the Gnolls in the courtyard off, he took off upstairs. Pyreece dropped the fog and then she and Audra followed. They quickly finished off the rest of the Gnolls on the wall upstairs. As they did, Oglesby went looking for Selson. They explained how she'd been killed and what she was. When Brandy realized that Oglesby was himself once again, she began hitting him. He told her he was sorry but she still let into him, unleashing her anger. He tried to get her to understand. She understood some aspect of it but the racial slur was more than she could forgive for now.

As they were preparing to continue the assault they heard the sounds of the army of Gnolls outside the castle, mobilizing. What a mess they were in. To top it all off, Kipp was changed. It was apparent that he was not the same person who joined this group so long ago. Brandy had said all along that the coin would destroy him, that he would become like Daresh. It seemed more likely than ever that this would be the case. The coin is changing him. They need to finish this so they can be dispose of this evil thing.

All in all, they had killed 42 Gnolls and a Devil.

This is where the session ended.
