Summary
They started this session with clearing the front room on the main deck. There were no creatures there. Just hammocks and a dining table. They moved to the back of the ship and the room next to the captains quarters. It was a simple meeting room with a long table and chairs. Audra felt that there had been no one found that would account for the floating hand they encountered earlier. She thought they should check out the body in the crows nest to be sure there wasn't something up there to account for it. There was nothing there but she lowered the body down. Oglesby checked the body and found a few coins and then Audra lowered if over the side. Pyreece said a prayer over it. As it slipped into the water, they saw a couple of the lacedons grab the body and pull it under that water. Watching the water, they saw more of these lacedons circling the ship. Brandy stepped up and positioned herself to pick off any of these creatures should they surface. Pyreece went to the other side of the ship and set up the same way. Elenor and Oglesby started to search the rooms.
As Oglesby opened the door to the captain's quarters, he found lit candles and a priest standing outside a chalk circle performing some sort of seemingly profane ritual. He wore the robes of Kelemvor, the god of murder and death. He had cut his hand and was dripping blood from it onto a powdery substance on the floor within that chalk circle. He muttered some sort of incomprehensible gibberish. He turned to see Oglesby and said, “You are too late! The servants of Kelemvor will take this ship to the bottom of the sea and you with it!”. He started to laugh and as he did the ship started to rock a little bit. Oglesby grabbed his short sword and charged at him to try and break whatever he was doing. He also yelled, “I found the idiot!”. Kipp was coming up behind him when this happened. With all of that, the man just stood there and laughed maniacally. He didn't fight back but simply said, “Kelemvor, I am coming!”. He took a bit of damage from Kipp and fell back but righted himself and no longer was laughing. Oglesby hit him as well. The man seemed to embrace his death shouting praises to Kelemvor as they finished cutting him down. His name was Varrin. The boat was still rocking.
Elenor moved to the boat they'd come over on. Pyreece attempted to break the spell, disturbing the circle and other elements within it, chanting and praying to Selune. Elenor saw hands reaching up and grabbing the boat, rocking it. She shouted, “Time to get off the boat! Abandon ship!”. Pyreece started searching the body of the priest while Brandy and Oglesby made a run for the little boat that brought them here. Brandy stopped to survey the waters for something to shoot at. The priest had half-plate armor on, a sickle, and two potions. She grabbed those. Ogkesby stayed on the ship to provide cover. Pyreece and Audra made theur way to the boat. As Elenor reached the boat and started stepping onto it, the lacedons swamped it, pulling themselves up and onto it. Brandy and Oglesby fired down on them. Kipp, right behind Elenor, seeing the little boat getting swamped, reached for Elenor to pull her back up away from the boat. Audra began firing on the lacedons as well. Pyreece turned 6 of them, easing the sittuation a little. More lacedons started climbing onto the main ship.
Pyreece shouted that they should move to the hold. She thought it would be more defensible. Without thinking it thoroughly through, she climbed down into the hold and in doing so, broke her own turning. The 6 turned lacedons turned back around and began coming at them again. Oglesby moved into the hold as well and prepared for the onslaught. A couple of the lacedons did fall into the hold. Audra made it in as well but the creatures in the hold blocked Elenor and the others from dropping in. Brandy, Kipp and Elenor fought above whiler Pyreece, Oglesby, and Audra fought below. They quickly dispatched the two below and seeing that no one else was able to get in there, all three climbed back out and joined the fight on the main deck. As they killed the lacedons, the rocking lessened. After a few more rounds, the lacedons were all dead. The rocking had finally stopped. They began to get one of the boats from the ship ready to put in the water. They also searched the rest of the ship finding some teak worth about 300 gold. In the captain's quarters they found silk worth about 300 gold, and about 500 gold worth of gems and precious stones.
Captain Jack got close enough that they could shout back and forth. They convinced him it was ssfe finally and he came aboard. Pyreece was still trying to cleanse the Kelemvor elements from the ship. Jack looked it over well and being a fare man, offered to tke the boat off of their hands He paid each of the one thousand gold for their share and agreed that if he had a ship in port here, when they were done, they would have passage back to the north. He transferred crew to this vessel and they took both ships to Refuge Bay and Ishau. They exited the ship and began making their way into the village. It They sought out the tavern and one their way there, passed through a market area. They noticed that the people were more tribal and didn't speak common. They passed a grounded ship that was far from the waters. It must have floated there during a heavy storm. It had been there a while and kids played on it now. They had seen a flier along the way as well, they read, “Groups that have come to collect rewards for the rogue tiger, known to the natives as Olengata, are to proceed to the guild hall.”.
They continued through a poorer area where they had children flock to them saying lots of things they didn' underdtand but they did catch the occasional “Olengata”. They made their way to the area that looked busy. They found someone there that understood the universal sign for drinking and pointed out the tavern. Once in thee, they spoke to a man who could speak a broken common. They learned about Olengata. They larned he was a sabertooth tiger that was killing people and disrupting trade. There was a push to hunt huim down. This man thought the party had come here for that. They lesrned that if they wanted to do that they had to go to the guild hall and see the chief, Otumwa or Vazal Kunde. Oglesby asked about Halaan but this man knew nothing of him. Oglesby did find out that there was there were ice caves on the Flame Peaks. The man new that their were ice caves very high in those mountains. They learned about the dangers of the area. The cats, trolls, crocodiles, serpents of all descriptions, serpent people, the yuan-ti, the great reptiles, steakasaurus, tyrannosaurus, velociraptor, and erven more dangers. They picked up a placer to stay that night, a yurt, 5 silver pieces, fit 6 people. They learned that those that came to hunt were sent out to specific sections of the countryside to hunt.
They finished and left for the guild hall. There, they met the chief, Otumwa. He treated them like they were new hunters in the area. They learned that groups had gone out to kill Olengata and none had returned. The chief did have a written record of Halaan passing through heading toward the Flame Peaks. They told them of the dangers but added a few. The Hachitta were cannibles. Another route would take them through an area with yaun-ti. They would kill you quickly. He suggested avoiding them. He told them that Omoyala and Dingo would escort them as far as the hachitta but would probably go no further. They discussed potions to protect them from poisons or heal them. They were told to go to the market top find those. He said that people assumed the herbs and such were too primitive. He told them that they are. They agreed that Omoyala and Dingo would be here in the orning and ready to go. They went to the market to procure elixirs and herbs.
We stopped there.
