They started this session with Cal being dragged toward a hole by a large spider. Thanks to her Gauntlets of Ogre Power, Eryn was able to grab Cal and wrestle him away from the spider. Symon cast a Levitate spell on the spider, raising it off the ground by about 5 feet. The spider became a piñata and didn't survive long after that. While it was still in the air, Eryn moved into it's hole and to see what she could fine. She found nothing but the bones of animals.
They continued north as the rain was picking up. They were afraid the rain would was out the tracks. Eryn and Cal moved together hoping that one of then would spot the next trap before they fell into it. Very quickly after they started moving north, they were attacked by another spider. While fighting it, two more attacked from other directions. It took a little time but they defeated all of them.
They continued north and came to a possible split. Cal spotted the tracks so they were able to continue following the trail up the northern path. They reached a point where they started hearing some sounds, like some kind of chanting. Eryn took the lead and moved up. When they could finally see something, they saw a stone arch and some stairs leading up to a platform. They moved up closer and saw three children, a woman and a man The woman and the children were held by vines tide around them. The man was held a little distance behind an alter where another man stood. He appeared to be in charge.
On this side of the alter, there were four greyish creatures called Fey Enforcers. Behind the alter, holding the man, were two creatures dressed in black, called Woodland Terrors. They reminded them of Wraiths. There was a Gloomwood Chieftain standing at the alter who lifted up a prayer to Verdinatrix. When he was finished, the two creatures holding the man suddenly ripped him apart. That's about the time that a creature, a Gloomwood Archer, in a tree to the east of them moved, which caught Eryn's eye. He fired on her but fortunately missed. Another Gloomwood Archer appeared out of nowhere, north of Cal. He attacked Cal.
Then two of the Fey Enforcers came down from the platform and attacked Eryn and Xor. Another Fey Enforcer disappeared and the last Fey Enforcer suddenly created 4 more versions of himself. Cassandra moved up to engage one of the Fey Enforcers. One of the Gloomwood Archers fired at her and when the arrow hit the ground near her, it exploded into a Web spell. Xor was on the edge of it, Eryn and Cassandra were caught in it as well as one of the Fey Enforcers.
The Gloomwood Chieftain cast a spell which caused lightening to slam into Cassandra, Eryn, and the Fey Enforcer, maybe Xor as well. Eryn was still standing but she was close to death. She had taken a bunch of damage from the spider earlier. The Fey Enforcer that was in the Web moved out behind Xor which left him fighting two of them. Eryn backed out of the Web and drank a full potion of extra healing. It took two rounds but Cassandra escaped the Web only to face a Gloomwood Archer. Symon cast a slow spell on the platform slowing the Chieftain, both of the Woodland Terror's and the Fey Enforcer that were up there. The spell the Chieftain's attempting to cast was disrupted as well.
Angelique had been firing on Woodland Terrors when the Fey Enforcer that had disappeared suddenly reappeared between Symon and her. She shifted to firing on him and Symon attempted to stab him. The Chieftain caused another lightening strike to hit them. Symon backed away and the Fey Enforcer hit him again. Once he was away from him, he turned and cast a fireball on the platform, catching the two Woodland Terrors, the Chieftain, and the Fey Enforcer. They survived but they each took a lot of damage.
Cal finally dropped the Gloomwood Archer on him. The Chieftain made his way down to Xor about the same time Xor finished off a Fey Enforcer. Xor switched his attacked to the Chieftain. Cassandra finished off the other Gloomwood Archer and moved to work on the Chieftain. Eryn had moved behind everything to fire on the Fey Enforcer that was attacking Angelique. Angelique had cast a Mirror Image spell only to have the Fey Enforcer dispel it. Working together, Angelique, Eryn and Symon finally dropped him.
Just as the Chieftain was going down, the Woodland Terror's made it down the stairs and engaged. Cassandra and Xor took on one while Cal took on the other. The others used ranged weapons and they quickly finished them off. With the battle over, they moved up onto the platform to cut the victims free from their vines. Cal moved the children quickly off of the platform so they wouldn't have to see their father like that.
Symon looked at the alter where there was a plaque. Between the Hat he had and the Spectacles of Understanding that Eryn had, they were able to determine that it said something like, “Verdinatrix - Lord of all living plants, God of Force”.
They took the body and gave it a proper burial. By the time they were done with the burial, it was late. They made a camp a little distance from this scene of destruction, putting the kids and the mother into the tent. Angelique healed several of them of some of the injuries they'd sustained. They took watches and the night went by with no issues.
The next morning they returned to the wagons. Theirs was still there with their horses. The other wrecked wagons were still there. The picked one and combined parts from the other wagons to make it functional. The only problem they had was with the horses. There were only two and neither could pull a single wagon by itself. After a little debate, they simple gave them their wagon and the horses. They moved all of the family's belongings from the other wagons into the one they'd purchased from Doc Silas. They wished them well and sent them north to Udenvale. They set out south, on foot, to Munville, hoping they wouldn't run into the family again, as Zombie's.
They travelled with Cal being invisible and moving out in front, looking for potential ambushes. They eventually made it to Munville and Cal went into town first to check it out. It was busy with a lot of people passing through. The people were watching the skies. The light show had them paranoid and more than a little concerned. With Cal being invisible, the group was only five with three pretending to be historians, while Cassandra and Xor appeared to be guards protecting them.
They passed a town bulletin board and caught sight of something that made them stop and look. It was a wanted poster. At first, they were concerned it might be a wanted poster for them. Reading the poster, they were relieved to find it was for Jesse Jack Johnson. The wanted poster had been there a while.
