Summary
After escorting the freed slaves and others away, only the core crew remained—Benjamin Blackmoor, Thurd, Weasle, Arean, and Lira Willowshade remained. Angelique identified several objects, and the group needed to determine their values to compile a list for Blackmoor to review, planning next steps, including acquiring two scrolls of resurrection—one to revive Cal and another for future emergencies.
The group sorted their items, keeping some and designating others for sale. Symon took the Bracers of Defense AC 5, planning to give his Bracers of Defense AC 4 to Cal upon resurrection, though success was uncertain. They inventoried their bag of holding, listing magical items for sale and distribution. The Mace of Disruption +3/+5 versus good was marked for sale as it was useless to them. They kept a Potion of Extra Healing, and X'or swapped his splint mail +1 for chain mail +2 for its lighter weight, despite equal protection. Symon took a dagger +1.
Valuing their items, they had 51,962 gp worth of goods to sell. Their list of needs included two scrolls of resurrection at 4000 gp each, fire arrows, oil flasks, a magic sling with bullets, a +2 bastard sword for X’or, potions of extra healing, and spell components. They gave the items and list to Blackmoor. After two rest cycles, using the Ring of Regeneration and Angelique’s healing spells, they fully recovered.
Blackmoor returned with the requested items. Using a resurrection scroll, they revived Cal successfully. He groaned upon waking, a sound he had never made, as his speech impairment was apparently healed. His voice was weak and raspy, and he ate ravenously from the table, reeking of rot until he washed up.
They briefed Cal on events: they sank a ship with Mott nearby but failed to kill him. Fritz and Emma were freed, and Blackmoor was arranging their safe transport to Fred, Freddie, and Fredrick, also ensuring the goblins and other slaves were freed and escorted out of town. Cal was eager to pursue Mott.
Weasel entered, whispering with Blackmoor, who warned that the group whose operation they'd disrupted was tracking them, possibly tipped off by a goblin or slave. Arean was assigned to escort them to Captain Hurst, with a reminder to stay vigilant. Blackmoor, Weasel, and Thurd then left.
Cassandra and Eryn swapped shields, giving Cassandra AC -3 and Eryn AC -2, as Cassandra was better suited for frontline combat. Eryn also gave Cassandra the Gauntlets of Ogre Power for her dual attacks. Arean led them through the town which was on lockdown due to Princess Seraphine’s kidnapping by Jesse Jack Johnson’s crew. They used backways to avoid attention as she warned, “Stay close! The streets have ears!”
In the quiet, run-down slum near the eastern wall, Eryn noted Arean’s trained movements, similar to her own. Amid candles in shacks and distant clock chimes, Arean paused, listening, then proceeded through a dark alley, flame sword at the ready. They were ambushed by five goblins on a platform, three draconians (two Baaz, one Kapak), three acolytes, and Dow Mott. Angelique cast mirror image, creating five decoys, while Symon took cover under the platform, firing magic missiles at the acolytes.
Eryn headed for the goblins but was intercepted by Captain Archer and Lieutenant Dan at the stairs. Using her Boots of Striding and Leaping, she jumped partway up the narrow stairs, so as to face one foe at a time. Lieutenant Dan split off and targeted Angelique. Arean killed an acolyte and the Kapak, its acid spray hitting her and Cal. X’or and Cassandra killed Mott after she dispatched another acolyte. Cal aided Symon against an acolyte, then attacked goblins. Eryn fought Archer, springing aside after a hit. Archer fled, and they defeated the remaining goblins.
Symon slit Mott’s throat to ensure he stayed dead. Cal retrieved his sword from a Baaz draconian. They found potions of extra healing and regular maces on the acolytes, a mace, chain mail, and a scroll on Mott, bows on the goblins, and coins all around. Arean told them that they fought well, pointed to the Blended Mermaid tavern where they’d find a “big, bearded, loud, old guy,” then left. The group moved toward the tavern’s visible sign.

Detail
After the slaves and other freed individuals were led away, only the core crew, Benjamin Blackmoor, Thurd, Weasle, Arean, and Lira Willowshade remained. Angelique had identified several objects and needed to determine their values. Once that was settled, they would compile a list for Benjamin Blackmoor to review, then decide on next steps. One of the items on their list was a scroll of resurrection, two actually. One scroll to resurrect Cal now and another incase it is needed later.
They separated the items taking some for use and others being left for Blackmoor to sell. The Bracers AC 5 went to Symon who gave up his Bracers AC 4 to Cal, upon his resurrection. That was the goal at least, if Cal survived the resurrection process. That was not assured.
They inventoried the bag of holding, listing all magical items for sale, plus the new ones to distribute. The Mace of Disruption +3/+5 versus good would not benefit anyone in the group, so they planned to sell it. They found a Potion of Extra Healing, which was kept for future need. There was also Chain Mail +2, which Angelique took to replace her Splint Mail +1. Not because it was better but because it offered the same protection but was lighter. Symon had took a dagger +1 as his weapon.
After pricing out everything, they had items for sale totaling 51,962 gp. They created a list of needs. A Scroll of Resurrection scroll at 4000 gp. They requested 2 of these, fire arrows, oil flasks, a magic sling and some sling bullets, a new +2 bastard sword for X'or, potions of extra healing, and spell components. They turned over the items they were selling and list of needs to Blackmoor. They rested through two rest cycles. Between the Ring of Regeneration and Angelique's healing spells, they were able to finally heal up completely.
Blackmoor returned with the items they'd requested. They used a scroll of resurrection on Cal and it worked. As he woke and sat up, he groaned. He'd never made an audible vocal sound before. Apparently, whatever caused him not to be able to speak, had been corrected with the resurrection. He was as surprised as everyone else. He couldn't talk well. His voice was weak and raspy. He was very hungry and began eating everything laid out on the table in the room. He also smelled of rot. He eventually washed up.
They recounted the events since his death. They told him how they sank to ship and that Mott was near the boat when they sank it. Cal perked up at the mention of his name. They really wanted to get him. They told him that they'd not been able to kill him though. They told him that Fritz and Emma were freed and that Blackmoor was going to get them out of the area. He was going to get them safely to Fred, Freddie, and Fredrick. They told him that Blackmoor was also getting the slaves out safely. There were goblin slaves as well and he was going to see them safely away from town and freed.
Then Willard, aka Weasel, entered. He and Benjamin Blackmoor whispered aside, pointing at Arean. Benjamin Blackmoor returned with news. The group whose operation they'd destroyed had a line on them. He was not sure how. Possibly a goblin or slave had told them. Arean would escort them to Captain Hurst. He told Arean their actions had impact—stay aware. He bid farewell as he, Weasel, and Thurd left.
Before the party left, Cassandra and Eryn switched their shields making Cassandra's AC -3 and Eryn's -2. This made since as Cassandra should be in front fighting. Eryn also gave Cassandra the Gauntlets of Ogre Power. Since she would get in two hits every round, it made much more since for her to have them.
Ready now, Arean led them out. Town on lockdown, turmoil over Princess Seraphine's kidnapping by Jesse Jack Johnson’s crew. They were careful to use backways so as to draw less attention. Arean warned of danger. Captain Hurst was not expecting them. “Stay close!”, she said, “The streets have ears!”.
She led east beyond map, slum section toward eastern wall, quiet and run-down. Eryn noticed how Arean moved. It was obvious that she was trained and that they possessed similar skills. Quiet slums, candles in shacks, passed-out figures, distant clock chimes, the hour was late. Arean held up her hand, stopped, listened to building noise, motioned on. Through dark alley, dust filtered shadows, Arean was ever vigilant, flame sword ready, scanning.
They walked into an ambush. From a raised platform on one side, five goblins raised up with bows and began firing. From the alleyway ahead came three draconian's, 2 Baaz and 1 Kapak. Also coming into view were three human acolytes. Behind them strolled in Dow Mott. The battle commenced! Angelique created 5 more decoy targets of her. Symon moved under the platform holding the goblins, limiting their ability to hit him. He fired magic missiles at the acolytes.
Eryn moved around to the stairs as she was headed to engage the goblins. When she reached the foot of the stairs, she ran into two figures that had been coming up behind them, Captain Archer and Lieutenant Dan. She had to fight them both for one round but then used her Boots of Striding and Leaping to jump part way up the stairs toward the goblin. The stairs were only wide enough for one person which let her reduce her opponents to one at a time. Lieutenant Dan turned his attention to Angelique. The goblins pelted the group from above.
Arean, with her flaming sword, was very good. She took out an acolyte and then the Kapak. Cal was nearby when that happened and the acid spray caught him as well as Arean. Xor had moved directly to Mott when the battle began. Cassandra had finished off an acolyte before joining him in killing Mott. Cal ran across the alley to attack an acolyte that had moved in on Symon. They finished him off before he climbed up the decking to attack the goblins. Eryn kept fighting Captain Archer. After one of her hits, she used the boots to spring away to the side, off of the stairs.
X'or moved back to fight Lieutenant Dan. The Captain, seeing that the battle was not going their way, decided to leave. He darted away, turning the corner and getting out of sight before Eryn had a chance to react. They finished of the last of the goblins and that was it. Cal scraped the last of the acid off.
Symon slit Motts throat to make sure he didn't get back up. Cal retrieved his stuck sword when the Baaz draconian finally collapsed. Searching the acolytes, they found a couple of potions of extra healing and regular maces. On Mott, they found a mace, chain mail, scroll. Not much of use on the goblins. Some coin across the whole group.
Arean said, “You did well, end of the line for me!”. She pointed west to Blended Mermaid tavern—“big, bearded, loud, old guy. You'll know him when you see him. Farewell!”. She slipped away.
The sign for the Blended Mermaid was visible. They moved towards it.
