Summary
Detail
They started this session outside of the quarry late in the afternoon. They decided that they needed to scout out the area. Oglesby had a ring of invisibility while Elanor cast that spell on Kipp. They scouted the area close by for the first few minutes. Oglesby went up the East side of the quarry examining the buildings finding door but no windows to peer into. He got a little closer look at the guard tower. There was one person up there. Kipp went across the South side looking into the quarry. There were five people that they could see. They appeared to be just plain miners or workers. There were no signs of slaves.
They met back and found out what each had seen and branched out again. This time Kipp searched more of the quarry where he found out what they were mining. Some of the miners worked with buckets of some kind of stone while one of them was chipping away at rock revealing the gem trapped within. It was a green gem. They later determined that it was something called Nephright. It's a gem that is used to store arcane energy, like spells. After looking further, Kipp found the main mine shaft where he could here gruff sounds like orders being given and the sounds of digging and chipping away at stone. He also found a couple of people, Simon and Garfunkel, inside the small structure at the Southwest corner of the quarry. Meanwhile, Oglesby circled the main building finding arrow slits in the two Northern corners of the building but could tell nothing of what was inside. There were no windows and the only door was the front door. They met back up again.
They set out again with both of them return to the main building. Oglesby climbed the Southeast wall and up onto the battlements. He found 7 guards on watch up there. They moved back to the quarry and took up positions to watch for a while. Oglesby set out again to look into the two buildings on the east side of the quarry and the tower where the guard was. The first building had three inner rooms. There was a main room with multiple chairs and some paper work and book shelves and cabinets. There was a second room that was a smaller office area with more books and a desk with papers. Everything seemed to be information about mining and schedules and such. He didn't enter the third room as there was someone in the room. Out side were two privies. The next building was a three room building with more work areas but the main room here had a chute off the western wall and sifting equipment.
As it got darker, there was a shift change of sorts. The miners themselves moved to the little camp on the Northwest corner of the quarry. The guards were swapped out. They discussed how they should proceed. They were thinking that they'd have to assault the main building. There was only one door, it would be very difficult to attack it. They realized that there were a couple of doors in the quarry that didn't look like they were part of the mine, maybe there was a path into the main building from there. Oglesby and Kipp moved back into the quarry and checked the first door. Oglesby slipped through the door without drawing any attention to himself. There were stalls and people working in there including a smithy. There was a door leading out of the northwest side of the room.
Oglesby snuck back out and told Kipp what he saw. If they could all get down here and be ready to go, The two of them could sneak in, engage the smith and guard, and possibly the two goblins. The others could wait outside until that started and they could rush in and clean up. It all hinged on them being able to get everyone else down there. Kipp went back up to get the others. Audra and Pyreece stored their armor in the bag of holding and put on their robes of protection, trying to make themselves more quiet. The group began working their way down. They moved from cover to cover watching the tower, trying to avoid being seen. Brandy and Elenor made it all the way to the door to the stables.
Audra was confronted by the guard in the tower as he hollered down to find out what she was doing out there. He wasn't close enough to see her well, only enough to see a woman moving around the quarry ramps. She replied that was had been sent to the stables. She was unsure if that was enough to answer his query and end the conversation but at about that time, Brandy fired and hit him. He squealed turned to ran back to the tower. Audra gave chase. The man in the building on the Southwest side had come out and hearing the squeal, turned to ring a bell. Brandy ran back toward him and after engaging him, silenced him. The guards on top of the main building hollered down as Audra finished of the man in the tower. He did manage to get a single shot off with his ballista before she was able to kill him. She answered back, trying to sound manly, saying everything was okay. That didn't fly.
All hell broke loose as many people charged out of the buildings. Borthenian had managed to make it a good way into the area before this broke out. Being scared and unsure what to do next, he simply found cover. Audra ran back down towards the quarry but was fired on as she made it under the chute on the middle building on the Eastern side. She was hit several times but managed to get a few shots off with her bow. Brandy stayed low and quiet as the guards ran down fro the main building. They found the body of the man who'd rang the bell. Oglesby and Kipp moved back out to join the fight as it looked like there was no way to avoid it. Elenor began digging out Pyreece's armor as Pyreece had made it down to the door as well. Pyreece cast Obscurement creating a mist to conceal a large area around the door to the stable area. She began putting on her armor after that.
Elenor moved out of the mist and back around to where the others had gotten to before they were pinned down. As the bulk of the guards ran up to engage them, she cast a fireball.
