Summary

Detail

They started this session in the cave where they'd just fought a bunch of Orcs. They did a quick search of the area and found that this chamber continued on well out of sight. They found small tunnels along the Northern and Southern walls. In a chamber to the North, they found crates and carts. In the Southeastern corner of the main chamber was a small chamber with a couple of cots, a small fire, and a small table with a couple of chairs. There was a chamber leading off of the Southwest corner of that chamber. Kipp and Brandy snuck down that hallway and found another tunnel back to the main chamber along with a grate where the tunnel ended. When looking down through that grate, they could see another grate some distance below and beyond that a floor.

They gathered the rest of the party and pulled opened the grate by tying a rope to it and pulling it up and away. Kipp climbed down to the next grate. He could here sounds of digging to the west beneath him but there appeared to be no one in the chamber below. He tied off the grate and then proceeded to try to knock it loose so it would fall. He matched his strikes to the sounds of the digging hoping to mask any noise they were making. The grate popped loose and since it was tied off, didn't fall to the ground but instead hung there. He lowered it and then everyone began climbing down. Everything went well until Audra slipped and banged back and forth in the shaft between floors much like the clacker of a bell. The digging got quiet. She stayed still for a moment.

A lone Orc came down the hallway to investigate the sound. Everyone tried to stay quiet but he spotted the grate on the floor and then all hades broke loose. Audra finished dropping into the room. Brandy fired on the fleeing Orc. Kipp and Audra chased down the Orc and cut him down in the hallway near the side tunnels where Goblins were digging, but not before he called out a warning. Kipp and Audra prepared to receive a host of Orcs but no one charged down the tunnel. Kipp charged forward instead and everyone else followed. They met a couple of Orcs just a little ways down the tunnel. There was another short tunnel to the South with Goblins cowering.

Pyreece charged further down the hall past Kipp to engage the next small group of Orcs. There were a bunch more than she initially saw. Audra was headed down the hallway to join her when she was blocked by another Orc. She and Kipp cut theirs down but in that time, Pyreece was alone with 4 Orcs. She held on for one round but went down on the second round. Kipp, Audra, Brandy, and Elenor charged on down the hallway to fight the rest. Audra yelled out in the Goblin language, “If you wish to be free, this is your chance. Fight!”. One of the Goblins grabbed a rock and through it at an Orc.

They fought quite a lot of Orcs and in the end prevailed. They managed to get Pyreece back up again but she did loose a point of Constitution. They paused and used potions to do a little healing. Audra tried to find out from the Goblins where the Human slaves might be held. They said that there were humans where the pointy needle eye ball thing is. They assumed that was a reference to the elemental eye. Audra asked if they could tell them where that was. They pointed past Pyreece and the others down the tunnel leading West. She asked if they would show them where they it was. The fear in their eyes and voice said it all, “No!”, as they ran off east and disappeared.

The party looked North and saw a couple of tunnels branching off East and West. They opted to move further West within this southern tunnel and found another chamber. There was a fire pit with warm ashes and a few embers and a tunnel leading off further West. They followed that tunnel for quite a way, descending as they went. Near the end, it turned Northward. Kipp scouted and found a lit room with a pool of water in the middle. There were two doors in the room and a lantern. Oglesby snuck into the chamber to the door in the Eastern wall. He listened and heard nothing. He didn't spot any traps. It had three locks. He picked the top lock and as he turned it, there was a loud chime sound.

The water behind him churned and a large creature emerged from the water. It tried to strike him but he was able to dodge it. The creature was a large serpent looking, elemental creature. It appeared to be made of the water. They later determined it was a Water Weird. They moved in and fought it. It took quite a few hits, seemingly because the weapons mostly appeared to just pass through it. Elenor's Magic Missile was the final blow as that killed it. They thought that it was probably not the last time they would be attacked there and wanted to get through a door and out of range.

Oglesby looked at the locks to try and determine how the chimes were set off. He didn't discover the mechanism but did see that there were a bunch of tiny scratches and marks around the bottom lock. He deduced that it was the lock most used and unlocked it next. That one seemed to work. They were attacked again by a Water Weird. They determined that their swords didn't do much damage but at least they did a little damage. They fought and defeated it. Again, a Magic Missile seemed to be the best weapon to use on them. In keeping with her crappy luck this day, Pyreece broke her +2 magic Flail.

Brandy opened the door finally and looking down the wide hallway before her, she saw creepy whitish looking Dwarf things called Derro. They had white eyes and white hair. They opened fire on her with crossbows whose bolts were coated with some sort of poison. Nearing the end of the first round, another Water Weird attacked Audra from behind, grabbing her, dragging her into the water. Elenor stayed back to help Audra get out of that situation. Not long after Audra was grabbed, a lizard like creature came out of a side passage and attacked Pyreece. The creature was called a Mud Beast. The Water Weird began pushing it's way into the mouth and nose of Audra and ultimately into her lungs. She immediately fell unconscious.

Once they killed the creature, they still had to find a way to get Audra out of the water. The rest of the party finished off the Dwarves and came back to help. Kipp jumped into the pool of water to lift her out. While trying to lift her, another Water Weird appeared. No one could see it as it was just water. The creatures attempted to grab Kipp but didn't get a hold of him before he got Audra to the edge where Brandy and Pyreece grabbed her and pulled her out. Kipp began to pull himself out while calling out, “There's another one!”, only to be pulled back under.

Kipp struggled to get out of the water, swimming against the whirling motion of the water. He managed to break the grip holding him there. Pyreece threw in a hunk of rope and held tight to the other end. Oglesby grabbed the rope to assist. Brandy prepared to fire on a target should one present itself. Elenor gave a Goodberry to Audra. Kipp managed to grab the rope. Oglesby and Pyreece were able to pull him out of the pool. Elenor yelled, “Get through the door!”. As she pulled Audra back through the door. The creature came up to grab Kipp again but was unable to grab him. Brandy got a couple of shots on him.

They managed to back out through the door and close it. Audra began recovering herself quickly after the Goodberry and rest. Although she was drowned, she hadn't taken much real physical damage. Pyreece suggested that they were in need of rest. They were running short on spells. There was very little ability left to heal. Brandy scoped the immediate area finding no more signs of life. She suggested that there was little to no cover against something finding and attacking them. The cavern they were in smelled of soot and fish. There were some lit oil lamps set in the walls. There was a wide pool in the middle of the chamber ahead. There was a long handle net, a few ores, and a very long pole with a hook on the end of it leaning on the wall just South of the pool.

Oglesby was perplexed about the items as they appeared to be for a boat but yet they were deep in a mine. That's about the time that they realized just how humid it was down there. There was a watery dampness to this cave. Brandy thought that maybe there was an underground sea down here. “That'd be a fine howdy do now wouldn't it?”, she remarked. They thought about making someone invisible so they could search more easily. Elenor cast Invisibility on Oglesby and he began searching the area. Kipp searched the body's of the Derro that they'd killed. He found daggers with some sort of greenish stuff on the blades. They also had repeating crossbows. They had mini bolts (1d4 damage) that could be fired at a rate two per round. The bolts appeared to have the same poison on them as well. A couple of them had spiked bucklers. A couple of them had a weapon called an Aklys. They also have a hook on those weapons so it can grab and drag somebody to them or at least pull them off balance. He also found, small in stature, studded leather armor on them.

Oglesby, moved down each tunnel a little to see what he could see. He only had the light from the lamps in the main room. He found a small chamber with a lit oil lamp, a bed, and a table with a padded chair. There was nothing on the table. He found a chest under the bed and within he found two vials. They looked like potions of extra healing. He delivered the two potions to Kipp and moved off scouting some more. In one of the Northern tunnels, he found a chamber with the smell of decay. He also noted some air movement up that way. He moved in a little further and found the chamber had a big rubbish pile consisting of trash, poop, and all kinds of junk. There was mold and nasty stuff growing in it.

Oglesby returned and told the rest of them what he'd found thus far. Audra suggested carrying a lantern with him. He thought that was a good idea and grabbed one of the many lanterns and began searching some more. He found a tunnel to the south, he heard frogs in the distance. He continued to move forward and found a bank of fog with the smell of sulfur. He heard the sounds of gurgling and splashing from ahead. There was a large “T” shaped pool in the chamber fed by a warm spring. Vapor from the heated water created the fog that filled the chamber. It reduced visibility to about 15 feet. He moved up a tunnel to the North and it ended in a pool of water.

Oglesby moved back down and West around the 'T' shapped pool and moved further down the tunnel. He eventually found a sort of beach with a much larger body of water. In the center of the pool was a large row boat. There appeared to be no ores. There was a rope pulled taught, seemingly holding the boat in place. Oglesby moved up through the chamber finding passages off to the East and Northeast. He heard some splashing sounds behind him. Another Mud Beast moved out of the water behind him. He moved back to the rest of the party. It appeared the creature did not pursue him.

This is where the stopped this session.
