Summary

Detail

The party searched the remains of the Hook Horrors, finding only meat and rocks. Moving down the hall to the west, they entered a chamber that smelled of rot. In a corner sat a large mound of discarded trash and bones. Brandy and Kipp checked the ceiling for threats while Oglesby searched the pile. After ten minutes, they recovered 187 gold pieces of an unfamiliar mint, 342 silver pieces, 96 copper pieces, and 14 small black trade bars stamped with a spider. They also found a silver signet ring with green jasper, a gold necklace, a pouch with three bloodstones, a dwarven warhammer in good condition, usable chainmail, a crossbow, torches, silk rope, and flint and steel. The group discussed identifying the items later when they found a safe place to rest.

Returning east down the hall, retracing their path, the tunnel eventually widened into a chamber containing a large statue of a skull figure, and then a second one opposite it. Pyreece referenced her books about the deities in Flanaess, recognized this as a temple to Nerull, the god of death. Two more nine-foot-tall statues stood near a stone altar stained with old markings. Brandy, Kipp, and Oglesby checked for traps and tracks, noting various footprints and a mark where something large had slid across the dusty floor. Oglesby discovered a small niche on the east side of the altar. Using an arrow to probe the gap, he carefully reached in and retrieved a dusty scroll. He gave this to Pyreece to examine. Then he reached for a second item, a small stone.

As soon as the stone was removed, it emitted a deafening, screeching alarm. Simultaneously, the heads of the statues cracked open, and winged stone Margoyles emerged with eyes glowing with fire to attack. The party engaged the creatures. Oglesby struck with his short sword, while Pyreece, Audra, and Elenor joined the assault. Brandy fired arrows with precision, eventually causing one Margoyle to crumble into dust. The party defeated the remaining creatures, though not before taking several hits.

Oglseby attempted to muffle the screeching stone with cloth. Pyreece examined the scroll, identifying it as a Scroll of Protection from Earth Elementals. On the bottom, she found the Elven word for silence: “Dinnen”. When she spoke the word aloud, the Stone of Alarm finally fell silent. Oglesby realized the stone could be used as a portable alarm to protect their belongings.

The party traveled south and west, returning to a crossroads. They chose a path that led to a vast, hollow cavern bisected by a stream. Throughout the chamber were ruins of ancient walls, broken arches, and strange runes carved into the stone. In the far northeast, a faint, pulsating greenish glow flickered like a flame. As they moved around a wall, they were ambushed by two Troglodytes. The creatures emitted a powerful, nauseating stench. Brandy resisted the poison, but others felt the effects of the odor. Kipp and Brandy cut down the first Troglodyte, while the rest of the group finished off the second. As they fought, a voice echoed through the cavern: “Turn back. This is not the way”. Err…No, not that voice, this one said, “Curious little mortals, you walk in circles yet do not see the patterns!”. Oglesby thought he saw Selson far north. She vanished! This irritated Brandy to no end.

They moved further along the stream, searching for a place to rest. Suddenly, a Giant Constrictor snake dropped from the ceiling, coiling tightly around Kipp. The snake bit him and began to squeeze, leaving him struggling for air. Brandy rushed forward, landing a critical strike with her sword. Eleanor cast Magic Missile, and Pyreece and Audra struck the beast's head. Kipp flexed with his exceptional strength and kept the snake from crushing him but he couldn't escape. They managed to kill the snake and spent several minutes extricating Kipp from its heavy, contracted coils.

The party decided to rest, using Eleanor’s Leomund’s Tiny Hut spell to create a secure, opaque dome. They spent 11 hours inside, healing their wounds with potions and prayers. They heard creatures moving and smelled horrible smells, but still managed to rest. They did as much healing as they could and rested a second time. During the watches, shadows of Giant Centipedes moving through the cavern. The insects eventually found the snake carcass and consumed it, the sound of their screeching filling the quiet cave before they moved on.

Once rested, the group prepared to cross the four-foot-deep stream. Kipp carried Brandy on his shoulders. About half way across, Troglodytes emerged from behind the ruined walls. Kipp returned to the shore with the others as they fired on the creatures. The creatures retreated behind the walls again. Kipp again started across the water carrying Brandy on his shoulders, and Audra carried Pyreece using her boots of levitation to keep them out of the water. As Kipp and Brandy reached the center, more Troglodytes emerged from behind the ruined walls and threw javelins. Audra and Pyreece had reached the far ledge first and held the line. Brandy fired arrows from Kipp’s shoulders and as they reach the other side, stepped onto the land letting Kipp pull himself from the water. Eleanor provided support with her staff. They killed the first set of attackers, though Pyreece was momentarily nauseated by the stench again.

As the battle was turning in their favor, a Wraith-like figure appeared. Further north, a twelve-foot-long Naga appeared as well, there were five Naga but they were the result of a Mirror Image spell so only one was the real creature. One of the creatures cast a spell, and Brandy heard a voice in her head calling her a protector and a friend, attempting to charm her.

This is where the session ended.

Exp: To be dispersed at a later date.
